February 20

Bill & Kate Isles
Singers/Songwriters

Bill Isles began performing in 2000 after a near-fatal heart attack forced him to retire from the stress of his work life. Since then, he has dedicated himself to writing music that poetically reflects life’s experiences and explores adventurous spiritual pathways. He has released eight albums along with his wife, Kate, who co-writes many of their songs. The latest is “Still Beneath the Stars and Moon” in 2011. Kate began touring with Bill regularly in 2009 after the release of their first duo album, “Matching Baggage.”

This concert will be held 12:10–1 p.m. in Lips Atrium (subway level, Charlton Building) The program will be broadcast live on Mayo Clinic’s Patient/Visitor channel 10.


February 27

Bill Staines
Country folk music

For more than 40 years, Bill Staines has traveled across North America bringing to audiences his talent and love for folk music. He has recorded 26 albums. The most recent, “Old Dogs,” was released in 2007 by Red House Records. Staines’ original songs have been recorded by well-known artists such as Peter, Paul and Mary, and Nanci Griffith. He has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows, including “A Prairie Home Companion.” Staines will perform original pieces, interspersed with country ballads and traditional folk tunes.

March 5

Kathe Jarka, cello &
Esther Wang, piano

Cellist Kathe Jarka has performed as a chamber musician and recitalist in 25 states, Asia and Europe. She is a graduate of the Juilliard School and is part of the faculty at Juilliard. She also has a private studio. Pianist Esther Wang studied at Baylor University and the University of Cincinnati. She is a member of the faculty at Gustavus Adolphus College and is a frequent soloist and collaborator. They will perform music by Gabriel Faure and Leos Janacek.
